On December 29, a devastating car accident in Nigeria claimed the lives of two of Joshua's close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif "Latz" Ayodele. They were involved in a fatal collision with a stationary truck while traveling near Lagos, leaving Joshua with only minor injuries. This incident occurred just days after Joshua's victory over Jake Paul in Miami, marking his return to the ring after a defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024.
In an interview with The Sportsman Boxing, Hearn shared his conversations with Joshua, highlighting the importance of allowing him time to process this immense loss. "We have been talking more lately, but grief takes time, and it's crucial to respect that," he stated. Hearn noted his confusion about why people are pressing for updates on Joshua's career, insisting that these discussions are premature.
"It's baffling that anyone would expect me to discuss his future right now; it simply isn’t the right time," Hearn commented. He plans to meet Joshua in the coming week, emphasizing that their conversation will not focus on boxing but rather on being supportive as a friend during this tough period.
