Apple Card Partner Switch: JPMorgan Chase Replaces Goldman Sachs - What It Means for You (2026)

Breaking News: Apple is shaking up its financial partnerships! After a tumultuous run, Apple is reportedly bidding farewell to Goldman Sachs and welcoming JPMorgan Chase as the new partner for its Apple Card. This shift marks a significant change in the landscape of Apple's financial ventures.

This news, initially reported by the Wall Street Journal, reveals that the transition has been in the works for over two years. Goldman Sachs, it seems, has been eager to exit the Apple Card deal.

But here's where it gets controversial... The consumer credit card business has been a costly venture for Goldman Sachs, reportedly resulting in multi-billion dollar losses. This has spurred the search for a new partner.

Several other financial institutions, including American Express, Synchrony Financial, and Capital One, were also considered as potential replacements. However, JPMorgan Chase has emerged as the frontrunner.

And this is the part most people miss... JPMorgan Chase is set to acquire existing credit balances at a considerable discount. Goldman Sachs is expected to offload approximately $20 billion in outstanding card balances, potentially at a discount exceeding $1 billion. This is a noteworthy move, as discounts of this magnitude are rare in the co-branded credit card world, typically reserved for challenging situations.

Furthermore, JPMorgan will also be backing Apple-branded savings accounts, although existing customers may have the option to remain with Goldman Sachs. JPMorgan plans to launch a new Apple savings account, and current Apple savings account holders will have the choice to stay with Goldman or switch to JPMorgan.

The deal is expected to be announced soon, with the initial reports of the split between Apple and Goldman Sachs surfacing in November 2023. Apple Card itself was introduced in 2019.

The Apple Card, currently available only in the United States, offers enticing benefits. Cardholders enjoy 3% cash back on purchases from Apple and select merchants when using Apple Pay, and 2% cash back on all other Apple Pay transactions. It's deeply integrated with the Apple Wallet app on the iPhone, enhancing user experience.

The Apple Card replaced Apple's previous co-branded card with Barclays, which lacked the sleek titanium design and iPhone integration.

What do you think about this shift? Will JPMorgan Chase be a better fit for Apple? Do you think the Apple Card is a good deal? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
